Mr. Bowers is a native of Charlotte, NC and attended CMS schools until his sophomore year in high school. After graduating from Albemarle Senior High, Mr. Bowers enlisted in the United States Navy and served aboard the Aircraft Carrier USS Kitty Hawk stationed out of San Diego, CA. During his time on board the carrier, the USS Kitty Hawk was deployed in support of several overseas operations, including Operation Desert Shield, Operation Restore Hope, and Operation Southern Watch.
After completing his active military service, Mr. Bowers attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and earned a Bachelor’s of Arts in Secondary Education and graduated with the distinction of magna cum laude. He began his career in education as a Social Studies Teacher at East Mecklenburg High School in Charlotte, NC in the fall of 1998. After successfully completing seven years of teaching and coaching, Mr. Bowers became an Assistant Principal at Parkwood High School in Union County in the fall of 2005. In 2008 he was named Principal of Piedmont High School in Union County and served in that capacity until 2012.
Mr. Bowers holds a Master’s in School Administration from Gardner Webb University where he graduated summa cum laude and is currently pursuing his Educational Doctorate at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte.
Jonathan and his wife, Julie, reside in South Charlotte with their two children Zane and Camden.
Mr. Bowers is honored to serve as the third Principal of Weddington High School and anticipates building upon the many successes that the school has achieved. He is quoted as saying “We have a great foundation in place with the stakeholders at Weddington High School and collectively we will continue to make our school an exceptional place of learning.”
